DROIDS are ROBOTS too!

Eight days into what has probably been my longest kept New Years resolution: A robot a day. I was setting myself a few ground rules such as how long should each piece take (max)? Should they all be original creations or can I draw famous robots? Do "Droids count"? I answered two of these questions on 01/06/13.

Office Ewok

 I received a Facebook message from Altered Esthetics with a link to a review for the Lutefisk Sushi E - Bento Box of Mini comics (the cartoon show currently on through November)

Fallcon 2012 Star Wars paper cuts

 

FALLCON the MCBA Comic Book Party (aka the One Day Wonder) is this Saturday (October 6th – 2012 – 10AM to 5PM) I got some good feedback on the paper cuts at the Springcon so here are two (of three) new Star Wars themed paper cut pieces. Above is "Proud Boba" below "Never trust a Droid" (or "Cheeky little R2")

 

I first started doing paper cuts thinking it would be loads quicker than my usual paintings. It isn't. It takes bloody ages, but I like how they turn out. I have a third one finished and a few ideas for some others....and less than a week until Fallcon to do them.

Lutefisk Sushi : Volume E - Mini Comics Show

 Every year Altered Esthetics Gallery in Northeast Minneapolis dedicates one of it's monthly shows to comic art. This November comes the Lutefisk Sushi: Volume E show. Lutefisk Sushi is a series of limited edition, screen-printed boxes filled with mini-comics by Minnesota cartoonists.

 

I just finished my mini comic which will be printed 160 times. One for each Lutefisk Sushi box.

My comic has Ewoks.

I found out about the Lutefisk sushi shows when I was in England still and my then girlfriend, now wife found one of the promotional postcards for the show and sent it to me....that made me find out about the International Cartoonist conspiracy which I am now a member of and also about Altered Esthetics, which I am now a member of the board and part of the committee that helped plan out this years Lutefisk show.

LAYER? It's my party and I'll draw Leia if I want to.

Illustration Friday's topic this week is LAYER. I often just try to sketch the first thing that comes into my head and then evolve that into a final piece. Well, it is my birthday today (Happy Birthday Me!) and I might not have time this weekend to post anything. As it was I did this at 1am last night after cleaning for a party today. I then fell asleep before any "layer" pictures were born.

Having said that my wife noticed that the word LAYER and the Star Wars character's name (Princess) LEIA are quite similar ("exactly the same") to her American ears when I say them to her in my British accent.

So here is Princess Layer......um, sounds a bit wrong. Stick with Princess Leia. Sorry.
